Car dies when driving and will not start...until a little force is used 700 1991

First
1991 740 Volvo Non-turbo Bosch Fuel System
275,000 miles as of 1800 hours.

Just the other day my car dead a couple times during the pass two weeks. the first time in line at the gas station and the other a busy Highway going 75 mph.
Both times after smacking the fuel pump under the drivers side of the vehicle it started.

I was wondering if this is simply just replacing the inline fuel pump with a new one and replace the fuel fuel? Or is there an underlying issue?

Also was wondering my fuel gauge does not work right. it never shows an accurate reading in the car. I simply just go by the mileage.
