AM radio in glass antennae loss 900 1994

replaced radio with Crutchfield unit... took the Volvo stock amplifier out of the action.. bypassing it with the provided harness.. everything works great except the AM band signal is now lost unless I park right next to an AM station's broadcast tower.. Crutchfield tech did not know how to correct this.
I miss my news radio AM station WBZ in Boston.. advise appreciated.. thank you.
