Is there a way to test an odometer motor? 200 1990

I replaced my small gear (1 tiny tooth stopped it from working). Followed the instructions, but it was still frozen. The next time I took out the dash, I followed instructions from an older post that said to push the wire that the reset odometer button attaches to and jiggling the mileage wheels to make sure nothing is jammed. Also, spray some compressed air if you have it. That might be all that you need - the gears could have binded up and just need a gentle loosening. That wire (it really forms a spring loaded bar across the back of the odometer)is one thing that should be "exercised" before buttoning everything up.
