Instrument cluster lights not working 200 1988

Well, I read a previous post about the dimmer switch being turned down ... I was sure that was also my problem with my cluster lights. Not my lucky day. All my lights work except the lights over my cluster itself. At night I have to guess at the amount of gas and operating temperature. Oil, charging, check engine etc all work when I turn on the key, as does the bright light indicator.

Story goes that I had the cluster out to chase a speedometer not working problem .. that turned out to be a "L" shaped plug problem (That I caused). When I put the cluster back in, I left off the orange wire that is for the cruise control accidentaly. Then the light over the gas side went out a little while later. I then later tried to replace it and the cruise control wire at the same time. Cruise worked fine and now the cluster lights don't. Dang.

Any ideas? I jumped across the dimmer switch as another poster had suggested .. no luck! I turned up the dimmer switch, still no luck.

Which plug on the rear of the instrument cluster do the panel lights get their power from? I see in my green book, fuse 16 is the main power source, but it also says that it is for the right tail light and parking light...they work.

Sorry for the long post -- frustrated and venting I guess!!

As usual, any suggestion are welcomed and appreciated!

randyB
