how to test ignition wires and a good alternative brand 200

hi sages- my 92 volvo 240 wagon has developed a misfire under load acceleration in lower gears. plugs are relatively new. cap and rotor appear ok after rubbing with emery paper. has bougicord wires which look ok. want to check these. old way was to connect an ohmeter to each end , look for consistency and no infinite or high ohms. is this still the acid test or is there a better test? also if i have to replace the bougicords what alternative brand would be good? ac delco? dont want to buy bougis or go to the dealer- dont want to be clipped or go to the cleaners. any of you ever been to the cleaners? thanks tons oldduke
