Check engine light on with 231 code 900 1994

1994 944 B230FT 217K

This has been an ongoing issue for well over a month. After clearing the code the light returns the same day (and the only way I can extinguish the light is to disconnect the battery).

The car starts, idles and runs as good as it ever has- making the light easy to ignore. I would like to figure out what is causing the light to come on and make the necessary repairs.
