Serious miss at idle 200 1983

Hi all,

I have a 1983 240 DL wagon I bought for practically nothing to try to save from the scrap yard. I was told the car was running when parked and perhaps was sitting for a few months maybe more i don't know really. The car is "drivable" but will not idle at all and has a significant miss. It will take throttle and seems to run ok if given some throttle. It idles just fine with the air mass meter unplugged although idles high. I recently moved to the seattle area and left most of my tools at my folks place. I have replaced cap/rotor/plugs, checked vacuum lines, installed new air idle motor from a car in the junk yard, purchased a remanufactured air mass meter BWD brand. I suspected due to fact that the car ran better with the air mass meter unplugged that it was faulty. The remanufactured unit has not had any impact on the significant miss at idle. I have also inspected the timing belt, flushed coolant and replaced both motor mounts. Long story short I am looking for any diagnostic tips or other avenues to explore. I don't have my compression gauge but the car seems to rev out off idle but I don't know if it would make power under load. Mileage is unknown but I would guess around 200k.

I am more familiar with the later bosch injection systems and believed the unplugging the air mass meter trick was still good diagnostic evidence. Do I have a second defective air mass meter? Could bad gas cause these symptoms?

Thanks for any advice.
Matt
