So have the machine take another .005 or a bit more to get the head clean so it will seal. As to the timing - ignition will not change at all, and the cam timing marks will be so close you won't even notice. If anything the cam pulley mark will be a bit retarded compared to the mark on the head/timing cover back plate.
If you don't pull the cam, well just install the cam pulley and bolt, and turn the cam in the direction of rotation (clockwise from the front) and if it moves easily, allowing for the various moments when a lobe is opening a valve, good enough.
