Auto transmission mount to crossmember problem 200 1990

Hi,

Yesterday I was going to change the transmission mount (automatic). I got all the jacks and everything in order and went to loosen the nut through the crossmember hole first. It seems no combination of socket/ratchet size is able to fit on the 15mm nut. Went at it again today with no success.

To avoid any confusion, this is a square automatic transmission mount.

The ONLY thing that seemed to work was a 15mm 1/2" drive socket (from a regular Craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet/socket set).

I tried to get at with:

1. Craftsman 3/8" Drive Deep Socket-will not fully go on nut, too long, will only partially get at nut because of it's length.

2. Craftsman 3/8" Drive Socket-won't work because the stud on the mount is too long.

3. Gearwrench Thru-Ratchet 3/8" Drive set-extension hits the top of the hole in crossmember

4. Craftsman Crow Foot 3/8" set-again extension hits the top of the thru-hole in crossmember

5. Gearwrench Flex Head Ratchet Wrench Set-hits hole again

Something just doesn't seem right here. Almost like the stud from the mount is at the wrong angle.

So I thought maybe the mount was put in wrong, which I don't think-the bottom two tabs on the mount are pointed towards the front of the car. That is the correct orientation I assume.

Not sure if the crow foot would work if I had a wobble extension-which I don't have.

I figure if comes down to it I'll have to enlarge the hole in the crossmember, which I didn't really want to resort to.

Travis
