MPG '72 142 automatic 140-160

Thanks, I do need to pull the choke to start and ease it back in as the car warms up so that's OK. As for valves, I have set the clearance but I guess you mean check the cam wear by checking the amount the valves go up and down. I'll do that over the weekend and see. I would think the spec is in my Hayne's manual. Wheter 14 mpg was all I could expect is what I was wondering,I was hoping I would get 20 or so.
