I looked in the search function here, and found some help/topics on the issue, but i wanted to address this as a new thread too.
As my recent history here shows, I've:
replaced my clutch and rear main late last year. Previously I replaced my clutch and rear main seal (in 10) and replaced the O-rings on my OD (after replacing it thrice).
I had IPD install my RMS in the plate (although because they didn't charge for it, I have no proof they did it), and I installed it in my car.
Here is whats happening.
Ive driven the car probably about 500 miles or so. Ive needed to adjust the clutch cable a bit, but I got real sick and then went to San Diego for about 15 days. So I haven't exactly gotten to adjusting it yet. As I'm driving, it will slip a little late into 1st, much like it does when it's not adjusted right. That is what made me think it was a simple clutch adjustment issue.
However, as I'm driving something just doesn't feel right. There's a slight vibration in my driveline (could be just a balance issue) and for lack of a better word, spongy acceleration.
It will read high RPM's, but not what seemed out of the ordinary. And it just started to shimmy a bit when I get it into gear (much like it did with the leaking rear main seal).
However yesterday on the way home it repeated the same symptoms the car did before I found out my rear main seal was leaking. I would semi hard accelerate and the RPM's would spike by about 500-750, without the car increasing speed to match.
I have as of yet taken the car and put it on jacks (I'm in the process of starting that). I don't know if it's the RMS leaking (I really hope it's not), or the front transmission seal leaking. I'm fairly certain I replaced my front transmission seal, but I can't find my receipt or remember vividly doing it. I can't imagine I would've re-used the old one. It wasn't torn or anything, which is why I don't remember distinctly what happened.
I would assume if it's the RMS, there will be evidence on the flywheel/bellhousing of engine oil (dark brown/black). If it's the transmission, I would assume it would have a red color to it. Is that a safe assumption?
This time, if I am to fix this myself, I would not remove the engine and instead invest in a transmission jack.(btw, anyone in PDX interested in buying my engine hoist and engine mount? :) )
I would hope that IPD would've installed the RMS correctly and it wouldn't be the problem.
I tend to think it's not the OD, because it works like a charm.
