Just running pumps won't put fuel past the injectors. NOTE: Read this, Evan. 200 1981

That's not how it works, John. There won't be any fuel from the injectors until the airflow plate lifts. If the AF plate doesn't lift, neither does the control plunger (in the fuel distributor), which "controls" how much comes out of the injectors. So no AF lift = no fuel injected.

My suggestion was meant as a simple way to tell (by sound) whether or not there was any fuel being injected. But your point is certainly valid if Evan overdoes the "injector Chorus". So I hope he reads this.
