1995 945, 8-Valve, 245,000 miles. The car served us very well for years, and I hope to get another 250k out of it before it heads to Valhalla.
I've been giving the old 945 workhorse a little lipstick and polish lately. She sports some eCodes, V90 door and gate handles, and several IPD bushings and braces, in addition to a nicely freshened up interior (new door panels floor mats, cargo cover, etc).

This car is presently my wife's daily driver. She carts our kid to school with some city driving, and then loads up some miles on the daily commute.
My wife's biggest complaint is that the car has little get up and go on the highway. Obviously it's not a turbo and won't be without an engine swap/upgrade.
I've been looking at the VX cam from IPD. I see a lot of good reports from 200-series owners, but I'm curious how it sits with the heavier 900-series.
The biggest performance problem with this 940, right now is that the car seems to suffer during a hard acceleration to merge with highway traffic. It is the #1 complaint from my wife, when I ask her about the car. I drive it occasionally, and I agree. It feels weak while merging.
Is the $225 VX cam something that could help? It's a damn-sight cheaper than buying a new car/engine/turbo.
What are the downsides to using this cam? Are there problems with higher-mileage engines? Are there other upgrades required if one wants to use such a Cam? Any other repairs one should plan to do when changing a cam?
I've got a new timing belt and cam seals ready to be installed, so soon would be a good time to replace the cam, if it were a prudent upgrade.
Thanks as always.
