head job: to grind or not to grind

have to replace the head gasket on an otherwise fine running 940 (165000 mi). the leaky gasket was not the result of overheating. it just happened spontaneously. my question is how far should i go in rebuilding the head? should i grind the valves on an engine with that many miles. maybe just lap them. how about the guides? would be interested to hear a consensus from all the experience out there.

thanks, chris
