Starting Problems on my 245 - where to start? 200

ok, i'm the new owner of this '88 245 w 179k!

we've had it 2 weeks and troubles have come on strong!

first, it died on my wife - she took the other car, i kept cranking on it, took for a drive - no more start issues that week...

few days later out getting parts of my friend's scrapped 245 - won't start - turns over - nothing - he checks to see if the fuel pump was running - wasn't - so he dropped in the fuel pump relay from his '86 - started right up!

so, i leave town and of course the car won't start!

I'm back and just wondering where to start...

I checked the 25a fuse under the hood - and fuses in the kick panel - all good

I had my wife try turning it to on - cranking it and then back to on, repeat - at first there was a POOF sound - then after that i didn't hear the fuel pump running.

where to start? I will say that wet weather came on strong as soon as i left - crazy rain here in Oregon - could it be something is wet?

thanks in advance,

aaron
