Hello all,
Somehow, I've made it through about 40 Volvos only owing one 740 (a non-turbo 87) and never owning a 940. Well that's about to change. Could I please describe these two candidates and maybe have a few expert opinions on which way you'd go?
Car #1 is a '91 745t. Enthusiast owned. Performance modifications (IPD cam & gear, 850 turbo, 3" exhaust, etc.). 210k on chassis, 120k on motor. He's currently got it set at 7 lbs. of boost, and says he's run 15 lbs. in the past without any problems. For my personal use I think 7 lbs. would be plenty. He's done all the work himself, though there's not much in the way of a documented maintenance history. Working A/C.
Car #2 is a '93 945t. Professor owned. 100% stock. 260k on chassis and motor. The owner hasn't done so much as oil changes himself, but the car comes with a pretty complete maintenance history. Non-working A/C.
They both run and drive great. The interiors and exteriors are in very similar condition. If I had to guess at a post-haggle price difference, I'd guess the '93 will be about $800 or so less than the '91--just about the right amount to rebuild the A/C in the '93 and have them come out equal in price.
My big question is this: Which car is it easier to put an M46 in? Would I have to source a flywheel either way, or is one of these cars good to go as is? Any other advise and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
