240 power steering pump failing... 200

I've heard this noise since about November and now all of sudden I can pinpoint it.

The power steering pump bearings are failing. Its quite quiet when cold, but gets louder the longer it has been running. If I get a chance, I'll slip the belt off before complete failure. However, if that does not happen in time here are a couple of questions that I have.

How long do I have till complete failure?

What will happen when failure occurs, especially while driving, and yes I know I will not have power assisted steering once failure occurs.

Will the belt brake or be fried or both?

Should I replace with a "good" PNP, re-manufactured, or new one?

All thoughts, ideas, and recommendations are welcome.

Regards,

Matt
