Headgasket Time? 200 1990

1990 245 M47 LH3.1

I have had coolant "disappear" semi-quickly (half expansion tank capacity in around 2 weeks), and my brand new oil seems a bit..milky/cloudy. This "could be" a headgasket leaking coolant into the oil, but I could just be paranoid. My car has around 295,000 miles on it, with no headgasket yet. I am sure others have replaced it much earlier, and some much later.

Also, my thermostat housing burst a leak a month or two back - I just used a small bit of RTV at the lower part of the housing's mating surface to stop that. Signs that the coolant pressure is too high, maybe?

Any suggestions/procedures on checking my "headgasket assumption" would be greatly appreciated. The picture below is the best I could do for a quick shot of the oil (changed ~ 300 miles/2 weeks ago).

Thanks
Mike
