What DIY jobs can be done to solve my tranny erratic shift problem? 200 1990

Ive described the symptoms in another post, but basically the problem is erratic shifting. Especially after it warms up. THe car very hesitantly shifts into overdrive, but then back to third. Sometimes its slow going into 2nd. But always does eventually. I dropped the pan and flushed already(fluid was brownish). The kickdown cable is working properly.
I disconnected the kickdown cable, and that makes it a little better.

Im wondering if there is something I can do to the throttle body, or... That would get things working properly again. Im also considering auto rx, but I can't decide if its legit, or snake oil. Or something that would cause further harm.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
