M46 filter question 200

I have an '80 242 or DL and when I pulled the pan from the bottom of the OD unit this weekend I did not find any screen or filter, just a magnet glued to the bottom of the pan. Am I missing parts or is this normal? I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions to this board, it has become my go to resource when attempting any repair or modification.
