1990 240 transmission update. Not going into overdrive.

Hey bricksters,

Thanks for all the great insights.

Last time I drove the car it wasnt going into 4th at all.
I can hear the solenoid clicking strong, and Ive also checked the wiring and did continuity checks, and dont find a problem there. The wiring below the shifter looks a little funky, but the signal is going through.
I also dropped the pan, cleaned the filter(not blocked, a little crud on magnet), and flushed with 16 qts of new fluid. Kickdown cable is not binding, and in good condition.

Im thinking now of pulling the solenoid to see if its possibly clogged.
Also, in the faq, someone recommended, while the solenoid is out, to start and go through gears quickly to expelled any crud that may be present. Can anyone comment on this. Is this recommended?
Following that I'll try another solenoid.

Im still not certain if any of this will help, but Im going to play it all the way out.

My back-up plan is to retire the wifes 740(over 250,000 now), and install her Aw 72L(replaced the ZF) in my 240. Whoa!

All comments, observations welcome.

Thanks

Larue
