93 940 wagon brake light non functioning 900

As I am on Whidbey Island and the nearest salvage yard[Seattle] is a ferry journey away I thought I would just by pass the little red cannister by wiring direct off the switch on the brake pedal to the brake lights in the rear...however it appears the issue is with the little switch itself as when the plunger is moved forward the circuit is broken and when back it has power flowing through. The inside of the switch does not make sense to me. Does anyone have a diagram or any visual to help me out? Right now this is my only vehicle and obviously dangerous to be driving with no brake lights. Thank you , Kris
