My wife did an amazing job of saving herself and the car from destruction this AM. Black ice on a highway interchange by the Lambert Airport - concrete barriers, rocks, open ditches, folks driving like their hair is on fire. With a lot of luck, coupled with appropriate driving caution, volvo engineering, and four snow tires, she managed to avoid totaling herself and the venerable V900.
When I arrived at the scene, there were three other Truck/SUVs in various stages of damage that crashed shortly after she did. One happened while she was on the phone with me telling me she had just crashed. Crazy morning.
Two circa $30k SUVs are probably close to being totaled, a front wheel were ripped out, another had destroyed the body and wheels along the passenger side (blurry in the background). Another truck had slammed into the guard rail but was in relatively good shape.

That black on the the flatbed is going to need a new front suspension system...
Our tow truck arrived, pulled the car out and moved it to an open lot, where I checked over the steering and suspension and found everything good an intact. I drove it home and found that it handles as it did yesterday (sigh of relief)
Sweds - they do build a damn good car.
Sadly the lower front valance was torn up and my neigh-on-irreplaceable prized 940/740SE foglights have been completely destroyed on both sides. It's a small price for the safety of my spouse, really...
The bumper cover itself is also a bit torn up along the bottom. The large hole for the fogs gave it several weak spots that didn't survive the rough terrain where the car landed.
So... junkyard replacement time. I've look at a few of these before and could never figure out how to remove it safely. The only bit about bumpers in the FAQ mentioned plastic rivets - which I've never located.
Can someone give me some advice about transplanting a bumper?
This might also be a time to consider a v90 bumper.... how difficult is it to fit one to a 940?
I've got more poor photos of the accident scene, but getting them off my phone has proved difficult and costly. I'll post more when I get it sorted out.
