Muffler replacement hijinks 700

Hi folks,

I ordered a new OEM muffler to replace the one that was falling apart. The muffler putty kinda patched it for a while, but the resonance came back after a few heat cycles. Anyway, I had a BEAR of a time getting the remnants of that muffler off the over-axle pipe! It was the little 4" pipe that clamped the pipe to the muffler... rusted on.

Finally, after 2 hours of grunting with a pipe wrench, it finally gave. I got the new muffler out of the box, and it was about an inch longer than the old one. The OEM muffler clamps that I bought with the muffler didn't fit either! They seem to be about 5mm too small ID. So, I go back to the parts store and get normal muffler clamps, a new 4" section of appropriate diameter pipe (old one was too far gone), and head back home. ARGH!

Moral of the story: don't bet on exhaust work being easy. But y'all already knew that.

When I have daylight tomorrow, the new muffler will go on. I have a couple extra rubber muffler hangers in my toolbox, I might take a look-see under the resonator to see if I tore one while struggling with the exhaust.
