Ambient temp gauge/sensor retrofit question 900 1991

Just picked up an ambient temp digital gauge and sensor with the idea to install it in my 1991 945SE. I see where it will fit in the blank located on the lower left of my cluster, though I have yet to remove the cluster pack from the dash.
Wondering if all 900/945's are wired for these gauges? If so, where does the sensor mount and would I find the related wiring. I'm thinking it would mount somewhere near the front bumper but that's just a guess.
Looking for any advice on this upgrade/mod I'm thinking of performing.
