Missing Transmission Screw/Bolt/Sensor?? 700 1991

while replacing the oil cooler adapter, I just found what appears to be a bolt hole on the passenger's side of the transmission housing. It is about halfway up the housing and appears to have been missing since I have owned the car given the oil/dirt buildup around it. It appears to lead into the cavity with the torque converter. What is this mysterious hole and do I need to find something to fill it?? (such as a missing part that is important!!).. please help, thankd
