How to decipher these numbers from a b230f engine block 200 1985

Hi,
I'm trying to decipher a manufacture date from these numbers that are located on the passenger side of the engine block behind the motor mount near the oil filter. The engine is a b230f in a 1985 model year volvo 240DL wagon Canadian model that was made in September 1984. The head has a date of July 18th 1984. The numbers on the block are as follows, 84 05 301. would that be May 5th 1984? Is that a bit earlier of a date for a car made in September 1984? This is probably one of the first b230f's made then I take it. So my question is what does the 301 stand for and would the date be May 1984 and is that close enough to be original?
Thanks,
Blueinportland
