ANSWER '89 740 Turbo Sedan vs. '91 740 Turbo Wagon 700

The 1989 740 has either the Garrett T3 or the Mitsubishi TD05. Both are attached to the exhaust manifold with bolts from the back side of the exhaust manifold. The 1991 745 has either a Mitsubishi TD04 or a Garrett T25. Both turbos fit onto studs installed in the exhaust manifold, and use nuts to hold them down. To swap turbos, without doing machine work, requires that you use the turbo and exhaust manifold. The 1989 740T uses LH 2.2 fuel injection and a Hall effect distributor for timing. The 1991 745T uses LH 2.4 and and RPM sensor mounted to the back of the engine for timing. The Air Mass Meters don't interchange. You can exchange engines, but you have to stay with the fuel injection system used on the chassis the engine is going in. The 1989 model year was a running change for connecting rods. Early 1989 cars with have 9mm connecting rods, and late cars will have 13mm connecting rods. The 9mm connecting rods have a poor track record in turbo engines.
