New owner of an old Volvo... runs for 10 mins. and then cuts off. 200 1981

I just bought this Volvo on Saturday. It's a '81 242 DL with automatic transmission. No idea on the mileage... odometer doesn't work. It's my first Volvo after a long run of Japanese cars.

The symptom is that the car runs fine after getting it started, for about 10-15 minutes, then it just cuts off.

The previous owner said his mechanic said the alternator was bad, so I replaced that today. It still does the same thing.

All three wires on the alternator are hooked up, so it looks like it's grounded.

Since I'm new to Volvos, I'm hoping someone has an idea of the obvious things I could check. I can't afford to take it to a shop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike
