Ac not working blows hot 92 240 gl 5 speed manual

About to buy a 1992 240 5 speed manual dl.
Current owner tells me ac is not working. Fan motor works but only no cool air

Best case solution?
Worst case?

Can I still get the r12 for a basic recharge?
Should I expend time effort/money to find leak or do a conversion to the new refrigerant?
