Head Gasket Leaking Coolant 900 1993

OK, my 850 got bashed by daughter (fortunately just slid off road, no others involved, no one hurt, but car looks to be gone) and my 93 940 which had been using some coolant now seems to be leaking it down the passenger side under the #1 exhaust. I can see it leak while its running, definitely does not look like a water pump issue.

Car was overheated somewhat about 90 kmiles back, and at almost 20 years and 170+kmiles no complaints. A couple of questions for the experts here:

1. If I removed head, can it be planed/machined flat, assuming not too much material needs to be removed? I'll have shop clean/grind valves at same time and probably replace exhaust studs which will break.

2. Have shop measure head bolts for accuracy, right? Or, just by new ones, certainly want to control my cost here, but if it costs 50 bucks to measure 10 b bolts I'll spend 60 to get new ones.

As always, thanks for the help.

Mike
