Noise reduction efforts on '58 Duett 444-544

I am trying to reduce the many rattles before the door cards and headliner, etc, go back in. Right now, the loudest is apparently from the passenger side flattened rod that connects the door handle to the latch. It has the clamp thing that holds it in place, but still makes a loud rattle, especially at low rpm. I was just going to start gluing in hard rubber bits and see if I can quiet it down, unless someone who actually knows what they are doing has a better idea...
