accelaration problem 200 1989

this is what's happening. i'll drive the car for a while, maybe half hour, suddenly feels like i'm no longer accelerating. in fact the more gas i give it the slower the car seems to get. eventually the car stops entirely and i have to pull over, wait about half hour then car starts again. it only seems to do this when it's warm out.
has anyone experienced this before?
