SU HIF vs HS 140-160

Hi,
I'm building a 144 for a long distance rally and want to keep the carburetion as simple as possible. Hence the current plan is to stick with SUs. Because I'm pretty familiar with them and they are very easy to pull apart and put back together again.
Does anybody disagree with the above? If not, which is better HS or HIF? I've been advised that HS are a 'better' carb, mainly because you can easily pull the bowl tops if there is a blockage, plus the bowl is a bit further away from the heat of the exhaust which may minimise the risk of vapour lock.
I'm a bit biased towards the HIF because I've had too many (i.e more than one) of the tubes from the HS bowl to the jet leak.
All advice or ideas most welcome!
Regards
JohnH
