FAQ is UNCLEAR. Which outlet for Cruise Control vacuum pump to use?? 700 1989

The FAQ say to connect to the 'rear outlet of the vacuum motor'. What is considered the 'rear'?? I have seen both the black and the white outlets connected to the vacuum hose in several Volvos at the PNP. I know that only one is connected and the other outlet is for air intake. But which is which?
The FAQ needs clarification as to the orientation of where the author considers the 'rear' of the vacuum motor.
Please advise.
