Poor MPG/ Engine Management questions

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to do something about my MPG problem. I've been getting about 10mpg, and has a slight miss at idle.

My motor is from an 87 740 n/a, I swapped it into a non-running 88 240, also non-turbo I believe to be LH2.2 by installing the distributor in the block.

According to this website:

http://www.jetronic.info/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Bosch+Part+Application+List#Volvo_240_LH2.2_B230F_

the injectors I have installed (280150734) are correct for 240's with LH 2.4 or 740 with LH 2.2. When I first tried to get the car running, it would not start (backfired a lot) on the injectors from the 240 engine (280150209). Are there differences between these injectors?

Car runs better with a 3bar fpr from a junkyard LH2.4 240, but it has a lot of trouble starting with that fpr than the 2.5bar that is specified on the website.

I'm really in the dark about these ignitions systems.

I have tested the O2 sensor, which oscillates between 0 and 1.
Exhaust is new
plugs are relatively new and look good (greyish brown, not wet)
wires are new
no vacuum leaks.
Air mass meter is correct (can I test it)
I am going to pick up a spare knock sensor with the hope that that will help.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.RG
