Bosch fuel injector question 200

I have four fuel injector rebuild kits and in the instructions there is a note saying "the old protective sleeve must not be removed from injection valves with yellow supporting plate" The injectors on my 91 240 all are yellow and I was wondering why? If all I replace is the top and bottom "o" ring then do I just pry the lower "o" ring over the old protective sleeve?

I was hoping to replace all the parts since they look exactly the same but I don't want to ruin a good injector because I took off the old protective sleeve..
