Auto Trans Selector Lever Removal? 200

So, now I'm in the 'clean up/tighten up/refresh" phase of the 240s interior and have decided that that gold-colored interior on the wagons is for the birds! Can't keep it clean...and then it's a total bitch to clean after you mess it up. Case in point: The PRNDL cover on the trans tunnel looks like poop and seems to be impervious to cleaning agents (Besides--I need to replace the gear indicator light). So, the plan is to remove it, paint it black, and voila! Now, the question is do I need to remove the selector lever or just the shift knob assembly to get it off? Either way---how does one accomplish that?
