power steering pump bracket broke 200 1982

The aluminum bracket that bolts to the engine and holds the power steering apparatus broke into two pieces. The replacement unit and new bushings cost me $164CAN. I am wondering if anybody else has experienced this.

I had replaced the original bushings with ipd's much firmer nylon units and, after removal I noticed that one of the bushings had 'eaten' its washer and, I think, had reduced its flexibility and thus, might have contributed to the breakage of the bracket. This is probably my fault for using a washer that would allow such a thing to happen. I will use a larger washer for the reinstall.

Now I have original bushings back in place and will reinstall the pump this afternoon. Just a cautionary tale.
