got my AW71L trans, finally. 200 1989

For me it paid to list in Craigslist (WANTED SECTION). Got my AW71L trans I been looking for to replace my 245 wagons’ AW70 trans at a reputable repair shop, for only $100. Fluid is pretty red, no burnt smell.

For another $300 for labor, (plus parts like fluid-seals) they will also remove mine, go over the one I bought from them-new seals-new fluid-whatever it needs other than rebuilding it. Of course while my trans is out they will put a new seal on the back of the engine also.

Seems the owner of the shop had a nice 940 for a time, and at about 123K miles wife had an accident that totaled the car BUT not so bad that he couldn’t salvage parts including the trans. Score!

They will guarantee the “new” trans is working perfect as it was on their 940. With only 123K should be fine! It has been on their shelf for several years and they just wanted to gain the space so $100 was fine. I didn’t have to have them do the install, but might as well. I can’t do it.

Am I taking a chance? Sure, but taking in all the circumstances and the fact the shop’s been a reputable business over 40 years, why not?
