B18 Rear felt seal question 120-130 1968

Okay, this may sound stupid but it's my first run-in with a felt seal. Makes me think of the infamous rope seal they used on flathead Ford V8s. I'm in the middle of a clutch job on a 68 Amazon and figured I'd replace the notorious leaker while I've got the flywheel and such off.

Do you oil a new one when it's installed? I keep hearing about centering the thing, but the one I got was a tight fit that had little to no wiggle room. Do I need to worry about centering with modern parts?

Thanks!
Mike
