91 240 steering click when changing direction 200 1991

my 1991 240 has developed a click when steering wheel is turned in opposite direction. symptom is if i turn the steering wheel to the left and then right, a click can be felt through the steering wheel when (and only when) the steering wheel is changing direction. otherwise the steering feels normal without any other noises and clicks.

it does not matter how much the wheel is turned to one direction before the change. i suspect the inner tie rod ends and would like input from the community. thanks.
