240 egr pipe removal -exhaust manifold gasket replacement 200 1989

have the manifold nuts/bolts removed and now am needing to remove the egr pipe.
have pb'd it for while and now which of the nuts do i turn? the outer most or the one next to manifold.

looked at faq's and they say remove egr pipe. any other tips on doing this gasket job easy/easier?
