1987 black paint over chrome - touchup or remove? 200

1987 245dl, side pillar trim is BLACK, but chipped spots show bright chrome underneath. Same on the roof rack. I have thought of touching up black (what to use?) or removing all black and going to chrome, perhaps removing the roof rack (possibly using the IPD plugs)., either repainting, going back to chrome?, or plug and put in garage. Looking for a cheap, quick enhancement. Thoughts? Thanks.
