tires 200 1991

Hi Uncle don57,

You can use slightly higher profile tires. The clearance problem, as you may have read on 240 and wheels and tires with the rear wheel well.

185 70R 14 is the norm tire size for a 1991 240 sedan and wagon with the 14 inch steel or alloy wheels available on the N. American model year.

I have that same size in some Michelins on my fabulous, is ongoingly, 1991 2490 sedan.

On my 1990 2409 DL wagon, the red wee beastie has a set of 195 70R 14 tires. I had boomped a center median one night when tired and bent the original driver side (left) front steelie. I was just tired. The local pull and save had the same part number steelie wheel in silver. This size is what the local craigslist offered used for a set of 195 70 R 14s for 100$. They have about 70% tread and are three and a half years old.

On my 1992 240 GL, I have four of the 14 inch final Corona wheel versions. Same size and offset as the steelies. These have new 175 70R 14 tires. Something called a Weatherforce model or brand. I got these off craigslist.

On my (RIP) 1979 242 GT, it had the factory GT wheels and suspension. On these wheels I install 185 or 175 60R 14 wheels.

As brothers 81242DLB21FCA and matt b indicate, varying from the diameter of the stock 185 70R 14 changes speedometer reading versus actual speed. The faster the speed, the greater the speedometer inaccuracy.

However, on my 1991 240 sedan with the very stock Michelin 185 70R 14s, the speedo shows slower than the actual speed. The odometer clocks up miles faster than should be as indicated by the speedometer. A portable GPS doo-hickey can verify speedometer accuracy as the interstate highway speedometer checks can a little less accuratley.

Hope that helps.

Tired MacDuff.
