no dash lights no start 200 1981

Most of the warning lights should come on when the key is in the run position and the engine is off. If not the small red wire on the back of the alternator is open or not connected. This wire is connected to the low side of the warning lights. You can test this by unplugging it and grounding it. The warning lights should come on. This wire runs under the crank pulley and to a large gray connector on the firewall. Again, this would not stall the engine.
