Coil Wire - shocker! 700

Recently replaced the coil and plug wires on a '90 740 GL (non-turbo) equipped with Regina coil. I was replacing the coil and decided why take a chance.
Yesterday, after a very nice rain shower, the car ran poorly and acted as if the fuel filter was clogged. This evening I replaced the filter but the car continued to sputter and surge. Frustrated I walked away to dinner and returned as the sun was beginning to set. After restarting the car I stood in front and just watched to see if maybe I could find something out of place. Sure enough, I just caught a very small light as the coil wire arc'd against the valve cover grounding strap. Like any other idiot I reached for the coil wire to move it away from the strap. I come by my intelligence naturally and do in fact own a pair of mechanic glove but was not wearing them. Silly me.

I finally rerouted the coil wire away from any metal, after turning off the car, and the Volvo now idles much better - not perfect but better. So my problem is this, the coil wire is still 'hot' to touch.

Any ideas?
