Instrument Cluster Swap: 93 into 92

Having been frustrated by the broken 92 speedometer and my failed replacement of capacitors, I have swapped the instrument cluster and fuel sending units of a 93 940 into my 92 940 car. This matches the fuel gauge resistance to the tank sending unit and also provides a usable speedometer, unlike the 92 used clusters. Unfortunately, after zipping it all up I found that the instrument panel lights don't operate. The 92 has the sliding rheostat switch on the panel along with electrical clock controls; the replacement panel has manual clock controls but what appears to be identical rheostat control of illumination. Any tips from those who have done this swap?
