volvo electric antennas 200

I recently upgraded the radio in my 89 240DL.the car came with an antenna mast.I had some electric ones laying around that I had been hoarding for some reasom. So I decided to upgrade the antenna too.Guess what, none of the 6 that I have work. When I apply current to them I can hear a clicking sound from "the little box'.The small box is either white or black depending on car/year.None will go up or down. The plastic cable nor the plastic gears are broken on any of them.Has anyone ever tried to repair these? What exactly goes bad on them? Is it a bad contact, solder joint, relay thing???I know their are a few of you who are as curious and sometimes take things apart looking for the "WHY".So what gives. thanks
