main alternator wire toast- small fire- best way to repair? Goatman? 200

So the mystery of the oil pressure warning light being on constantly was solved. Tonight, I pulled the alternator to inspect the wiring harness and found that the main alternator wire (the big red one, 6 gauge), had grounded itself against the alternator mount after the insulation had failed, most likely due to abrasion. ?Nice weld mark on the bracket and lots of burned insulation. Fortunately, the entire car did not catch on fire. However, the last foot or so of the primary alternator wire, as well as the small alternator wire (red) and oil sender wiring,is destroyed. I can splice the two small wires (oil sender and alt.), but I am a little concerned with the best way to repair the large wire. Is splicing an option? Do not want high resistance here! If splicing is not an option, what is the best way to replace this wire in the harness? What is the best method of removing the old wire from the harness? Or, do I just cut it off at both ends and run a new wire?

Any good ideas are appreciated.
